MICHAEL BURKHARDT

The community was shocked Tuesday [21 JAN 1896] night to hear of the death of ex-Councilman Burkhardt, which occurred at ten o'clock, at his late residence on Second street. Death was caused by inflamation (sic) of the heart, after an illness of but two weeks. Deceased was born June 21, 1835, in Geiselberg, Rhinephalz, Germany, and came to this country June 1, 1860. Ten days after his arrival he was married to Elizabeth Grundtisch, and to this union were born ten children, seven of whom survive, namely, Henry, Frederica, Emma, Katie, Eva, Settal (sic), Frank, Reena, Adam and Fred. The occupation of Mr. Burkhardt was that of carpenter, and his entire life was that of an industrious, honest, well-intending citizen. His funeral will occur tomorrow [26 JAN 1896] morning at ten o'clock, and will be conducted at the Trinity Reformed church by Rev. Belser. Interment at Oak Hill.
