Selma Tschantz

NEVADA--Selma Marie Tschantz, Nevada, died at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, in the emergency room at Wyandot Memorial Hsopital. She was 96.

Born Feb. 12, 1910 in Marion, she was a daughter of John and Ethel (Grove) Welch. On April 23, 1932, she married Irvin Durain Tschantz in Ashland, Ky. He died Sept. 24, 1987.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Joel Tschantz, Maumee; Gail Cook, Oklahoma City; and Paul Hansen, Jinx, Okla.; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Grove Welch, Nevada. She was preceeded (sic) in death by a daughter, Nancy Hansen; two sons, Richard Tschantz and John Tschantz; and a sister, Dora Ahmann.

Mrs. Tschantz was a teacher at Petersburg Academy for two years before teaching school at Eden and Nevada. She also helped raise Morgan horses and horse-carriage shows at the farm in Nevada.

She was a member of Nevada Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Tschantz was a former member of the Nevada Lioness Club, where she was a charter member, and a former Grange member. She also was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Usando Literary Club and Morgan Horse Association and helped with Girls (sic) Scouts and Cub Scouts.

She enjoyed needlepoint, collecting antiques and helping with horses on the farm.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nevada Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada.
