Geraldine P. Sams

Services for Geraldine P. Sams, of Upper Sandusky, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky. The Rev. Rob Turner will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Sycamore. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, and from 2:30 p.m. till the time of service Wednesday.

Mrs. Sams died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center, Marion. She was 87.

She was born in Eden Township to Frank and Grace (Stinchcomb) Ellis on June 22, 1913. She married John Sams on June 5, 1942, in Hattisburg, Miss.; he survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Sue Bennett of Nevada; and two granddaughters, Joy Bennett of Columbus, and Bobbi Bennett of Bucyrus.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Wade, and a sister who died in infancy.

Mrs. Sams was a graduate of Eden High School, and of Bowling Green State University with a degree in elementary education. She taught elementary school in Sycamore and then at Eden School before retiring in 1971 after 28 years.

She was a lifelong member of Eden Chapel of the United Methodist Church, Nevada, where she was active with the women's society. She also played the piano at the church at one time. Her other club memberships included the UpSan Mothers' Club in Upper Sandusky and the Wyandot County Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed reading, eating out with her husband, raising flowers and watching the birds around the feeders at her home.

Memorials may be made to Eden Chapel United Methodist Church, the Wyandot Health Foundation, or the activity fund for the residents of Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community.
